Precautions for medical withstand voltage tester

Medical withstand voltage tester is an instrument used to measure the withstand pressure strength of medical systems and medical equipment. It can intuitively, accurately, quickly and reliably test the breakdown voltage, leakage current and other electrical safety performance indicators of various tested objects, and can be used as an auxiliary high-voltage source to test component and machine performance.

Medical withstand voltage testers are also known as electrical dielectric strength testers or dielectric strength testers. Also known as Dielectric Breakdown Device, Dielectric Strength Tester, High Voltage Tester, High Voltage Breakdown Device and Stress Tester. A test to check the withstand voltage capability of electrical insulating materials by applying a specified AC or DC high voltage between live and non-live parts (usually the enclosure) of electrical equipment.

In long-term operation, the appliance must not only withstand the rated working voltage, but also must withstand short-term overvoltages higher than the rated working voltage during operation (the overvoltage may be several times higher than the rated working voltage)

Precautions for medical withstand voltage tester:

1. Put insulating rubber pads under the operator's feet and wear insulating gloves to prevent life-threatening high-voltage electric shocks;

2. The withstand voltage tester must be grounded reliably.

3. When connecting the measured object, it must be ensured that the high voltage output is "0" and is in the "reset" state;

4. During the test, the grounding terminal of the instrument must be reliably connected to the object under test, and it is strictly forbidden to disconnect the circuit.

5. Do not short-circuit the output ground wire and the AC power wire, so as to avoid danger caused by the high voltage of the casing;

6. The medical withstand voltage tester should try to avoid short circuit between the high voltage output terminal and the ground wire to avoid accidents.

7. Once the test lamp and super leak lamp are damaged, they must be replaced immediately to prevent misjudgment.

8. When troubleshooting, the power supply must be cut off;

9. When the medical withstand voltage tester adjusts the high voltage with no load, the leakage current indicator has an initial current, which is normal and does not affect the test accuracy;

10. Avoid direct sunlight, do not use or store the instrument in a high temperature, humid and dusty environment.

Safe use skills of medical withstand voltage tester to prevent electric shock

In long-term operation, the medical withstand voltage tester must not only withstand the rated working voltage, but also must withstand the short-term overvoltage effect (the overvoltage value may be higher than the rated voltage) during operation. Under the action of these voltages, the internal structure of the electrically insulating material will change. When the overvoltage intensity reaches a certain value, the insulation of the material will be destroyed, the electrical appliance will not work normally, and the operator may be subjected to electric shock, endangering personal safety.

Safe use of medical withstand voltage testers to prevent electric shock:

1. Before use, be sure to read the manual carefully and follow the instructions.

2. The medical withstand voltage tester and the object to be tested must be well grounded, and it is not allowed to pierce the water pipe at will.

3. The high voltage generated by the withstand voltage tester is enough to cause casualties. In order to prevent electric shock accidents, before using the withstand voltage tester, please wear edge rubber gloves and place them on the insulating rubber pads under your feet, and then perform related operations.

4. When the medical withstand voltage tester is in the test state, do not touch the test wire, the object under test, the test rod and the output terminal.

5. Do not short-circuit the test wire, wire control wire and AC power wire of the withstand voltage tester to prevent charging the entire instrument.

6. When testing one test object and replacing another test object, the tester should be in the 'reset' state, and the 'test' indicator light is off and the voltage display value is '0''.

7. Once the power switch is turned off (such as turning it on again), you need to wait a few seconds, and do not turn the power switch on and off continuously to avoid wrong actions and damage to the instrument.

8. When the medical withstand voltage tester is in the no-load test, the leakage current will display a value.

Description of the equipment under test for medical withstand voltage

Medical devices refer to instruments, equipment, appliances, materials or other items that are used alone or in combination on the human body, including the required software; the effects of which are used on the human body surface and in the body are not obtained by pharmacological, immunological or metabolic means , but these means may participate and play a certain auxiliary role; their use is intended to achieve the following intended purposes:

(1) Prevention, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and remission of diseases;

(2) Diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, mitigation and compensation for injury or disability;

(3) Research, substitution and adjustment of anatomical or physiological processes;

(4) Pregnancy control.

Classification of medical devices:

The first category refers to medical devices that are sufficient to ensure their safety and effectiveness through routine management.

The second category refers to medical devices whose safety and effectiveness should be controlled.

The third category refers to medical devices that are implanted into the human body; used to support and maintain life; potentially dangerous to the human body, and whose safety and effectiveness must be strictly controlled.

Safety testing of medical devices

Medical devices belong to the category of electrical equipment. Due to the particularity of the scope of use, the safety testing standards of medical devices are different from those of other electrical equipment. At present, medical safety standards mainly include GB9706.1-2020, IEC60601- 1:2012, EN 60601-1, UL60601-1 and other standards.
